    Good Energies Please...

    Sunday, December 9, 2007, 05:18 AM [General]

My poor 21 yr-old gelding injured himself somehow. Anyone who has horses knows that sometimes they hurt themselves out in the fields and you just don't know exactly what happened.

Last year he bowed a tendon in the right foreleg. Last week, all 4 of his legs began to swell up. The hind ones look a little better, but the forelegs are still swollen and sore. We think he may have been carrying on in the snow with some of the younger horses and slipped or strained himself on some ice.

We've tried wrapping them, then securing the wraps behind travelling boots, but my boy is so smart, he's figured out how to undo velcro, and he takes the wraps off. We've even tried turning the travelling boots around so that the velcro is facing the inside of his leg, but he *still* gets them off. My boy is too clever for his own good. ;) At this point we're keeping him in a small paddock with another old horse for company, giving him aspirin paste because too much Bute gives him a tummy ache, and treating the legs with absorbine. I'd like to do hydrotherapy on him like I did when he bowed the tendon, but it's way too cold for that. :(

Anyway, please send good thoughts/energy for his recovery.

    Thank you and be safe.
